Biography
Dr Danielle Taylor is a health geographer at the University of Adelaide, with experience in the application of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) for health research. She has a PhD in Geography (2014) and a MA in Spatial Information Science (2002), both from The University of Adelaide. Her PhD research investigated temporal trends and spatial patterns in birthweight variation, and in particular looked at the influence of socio-economic and contextual variables and their association with birthweight. In 2017 she was awarded the Hospital Research Foundation Mid-Career Fellowship, based at the Basil Hetzel Institute. Her fellowship research will aim to understand the influence of environmental factors, in particular local measures of accessibility, as enablers or barriers to healthy ageing and indicators of frailty risk. Her research interests include the application of spatial technology to: health geography; spatial epidemiology; accessibility analysis; ageing; demography; improving strategic service planning and resource allocation. Since commencing work at The University of Adelaide in 1998, with GISCA, the National Key Centre for Social Applications of GIS, she has been involved with many GIS consultancies and research projects, including having a major role in the development of the Accessibility/ Remoteness Index of Australia (ARIA).
