Biography
Dr Piscitelli's PhD studies and postdoctoral fellowships’ research programs related primarily to the role of the gastrointestinal tract in postprandial blood pressure regulation in older individuals. This work was facilitated by the use of a number of non-imaging and sophisticated imaging methods, including scintigraphic measurement of gastric emptying and the use of 2D, 3D and Doppler ultrasonographic techniques to measure gastric antral area, gastric volumes and blood flow to the gut. More recently, Dr Piscitelli's research has evolved to focus on ‘practical’ applications (i.e. physical activity in the form of low-intensity walking exercise) that may be implemented in the community, to prevent postprandial hypotension (a fall in blood pressure after a meal) and, therefore, potentially falls and fall-induced injuries with the aim of improving the health outcomes of the ageing population.
