Biography
Erik completed his BSc (Optics and Photonics) at the University of Adelaide in 2006. He received a first class honours in experimental physics in 2007, with a project entitled "Optical Fibre Protein Sensors," supervised by Dr Dean Male and Prof. Tanya Monro. From 2008-2011 he completed his PhD under the supervision of Prof Heike Ebendorff-Heidepriem, Dr Shahraam Afshar and Prof Tanya Monro on a collaborative project with The Defence Science and Technology Organisation on a project entitled "Hydrogen peroxide sensing with microstructured optical fibres: fuel, wine and babies." Since the completion of his PhD Erik has worked on a linkage project with Cook Medical, on the development of novel optical fibre probes for measurements of pH and temperature in the local medium surrounding embryos. He is currently working as a Research Fellow in the Institure for Photonics and Advanced Sensing, and the Centre for Nanoscale Biophotonics. His current research projects involved application of fibre sensors to ultra high temperature industrial applications, and the deployment of novel optical fibre sensors in bioapplications
