Biography
Jeremiah is currently a postdoctoral research fellow in the School of Biological Sciences at The University of Adelaide under the mentorship of Dr Frank Reith. After receiving his PhD in 2013 from Western University (Canada), he moved to Australia for his first postdoctoral appointment at The University of Queensland. Jeremiah’s research primarily focuses on the fundamental understanding of how bacteria contribute to the biogeochemical cycling of gold and how gold is mobile within natural environments. As a geomicrobiologist, Jeremiah uses high-resolution scanning and transmission electron microscopy integrated with various spectroscopy techniques to study the biogeochemical relationship between bacteria and minerals. In addition to gold biogeochemistry, his research interests include the interpretation of both modern and ancient Earth environments from the preservation of microfossils within the rock record. By analysing structure-function relationships of microbe-mineral interactions, he strives to reveal how the lithosphere is able to support life.
