Biography
I am a HDR student participating in an interdisciplinary research project with Dr Steven Wiederman (Visual Physiology and Neurobotics Laboratory), Prof. Benjamin Cazzolato and Dr Steven Grainger (School of Mechanical Engineering). A mechanical engineer by training, I am currently seeking to use physiological insights into how insects, and particularly dragonflies, see the world and track targets to develop novel visual detection and tracking algorithms. A better understanding of insect vision will in time have many important applications but some of the more immediate of these are improved algorithms for visual guidance of autonomous robots. This creates an intersection between my broader research interests, which are robotics and control, and the physiological investigations in our lab.
