Biography
There have been two strands that have shaped Dr Powell’s research agenda; exploring contextual factors that relate to a situation or condition and translating research into practice. In particular, she has led new initiatives and their implementation. Most commonly she works in interdisciplinary research approaches. Her professional discipline is anthropology; medical/health and forensic, which predisposes her to analysing community systems and situation contingent dynamics. Dr Powell has developed considerable experience of all aspects of community, health and social service delivery; having held research and organisational leadership roles in direct service delivery to clients, policy development, program coordination and foundational research including evaluation for change. In her 30 year career she has worked on both academic research projects, developing & conceptualising research projects, and addressed issues within policy and program delivery organisations.
