Biography
Sal Humphreys began work at the University of Adelaide in February 2009. She completed her PhD on online digital games at QUT in 2005 and subsequently was awarded a 3 year position as post-doctoral research fellow on an ARC linkage grant through QUT. Sal's research interests centre on digital media, digital games, (online games in particular), and social networking sites, with a focus on the way these new media interact with cultural institutions such as intellectual property, governance, citizenship and rights. She is currently researching the significance of 'Big Data' and surveillance. She also works in the area of Health Communication where she is a member of a research team looking at ways to use new media as part of effective health communication strategies. Sal has previously taught at the University of South Australia in media studies, and has worked for various state and private organisations in South Australia in areas relating to online media. She was employed by Ratbag Games development company for a year in 1998, and has worked as a freelance editor.
