Biography
Dr Tongzhi Wu is an early-career research fellow within the NHMRC Centre of Research Excellence (CRE) in Translating Nutritional Science to Good Health, at the University of Adelaide. His major research interest concerns gastrointestinal physiology and glycaemic control in type 2 diabetes. His research is clinically based, and has yielded important insights into the impact of gastric emptying on postprandial blood glucose regulation, the pathophysiology of the ‘incretin’ hormones (ie. glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP)), and nutrient sensing within the proximal small intestine in type 2 diabetes. Based on the principles of gut physiology, he is also investigating potential dietary and/or pharmacological strategies that modify gut function to improve glycaemic control in type 2 diabetes.
