Ms Rachel Bacon

Rachel was appointed at the University of Canberra as an Assistant Professor in 2010 due to her professional experience. She has worked as a dietitian since 1996 in clinical, community and research settings. Rachel's expertise is in clinical education where she has delivered plenary and international presentations on her practical innovations and research. She has been the recipient of Professional, University and Community nominations, commendations and awards for her achievements Rachel is the Discipline Lead for Nutrition and Dietetics and Health Faculty Convenor for Work-Integrated Learning at the University of Canberra. She was responsible for the establishment of the student-led dietetics clinics including outreach services to aged care facilities.  Rachel convenes all the work-integrated learning and teaches Counselling and Communication in the Masters of Nutrition and Dietetics. In 2015 Rachel was the recipient of the Dietitians Association of Australia President's Award for Innovation for the development of a research and Web-based program for clinical supervisors in competency-based assessment. in this area.

Research Interest

Rachel's PhD research and publications explore the use of clinical placements in community and aged care settings to better prepare students for the demands of the future workforce. She has also published research on competency-based assessment in the work setting.
