Biography

My research focus covers three inter-related areas: HRM – organisational change & reform – performance. Most of my research uses Indonesia as a case study of an emerging economy. Human Resource Management and Performance The management of human resources is key to organisation success. In this area, I am working around the theories of strategic HRM, focusing on the main HR activities, such as recruitment, training and development, performance management, and remuneration. My research has looked at how these practices can support the achievement of organisational goals and performance. Employee management has evolved from traditional to contemporary HRM, in line with the development in the contextual environment, including globalisation, increasing levels education in the population and technology advancement. Our study examines how emerging economy, such as Indonesia, faces challenges in modernising its HRM. Public Service Reform /change Change in the public sector organisation is often difficult because the changes need to be implemented and accepted by bureaucrat themselves ….'The very people who are the cause of the problem are charged with finding the solution'. We are currently looking at how Indonesian public service does this. The role of public service is to support the achievement of national agenda and goals. Our study focuses on reform of the bureaucracy when the direction of a nation changes, such as the case with Indonesia when authoritarian regime was changed to democratic government.
