Biography
Professor Aranda has worked in cancer and palliative care settings since 1979, predominantly in research and teaching roles since 1989. Her research interests centre on the development of an evidence base to enhance supportive care outcomes for people affected by cancer. She has conducted several randomised controlled trials of novel nursing and supportive care interventions. Professor Aranda leads a multidisciplinary research group based at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Melbourne where she has a joint appointment. She has received in excess of $2 million in competitive research funding. She is also leading a national project under Cancer Australia to develop a framework and curriculum materials to support the development of the cancer nursing workforce (www.edcan.org). Professor Aranda is a successful research student supervisor having supervised 4 doctoral and six master of nursing research students to completion. Professor Aranda is currently President of the International Society of Nurses in Cancer Care.
