Damon Kent

Biography

"Dr Damon Kent is a Senior Lecturer in Engineering Sciences at the University of the Sunshine Coast. He is responsible for the development of teaching and research in the Mechanical Engineering program. Damon has worked as a mechanical engineer in commercial manufacturing environments and has extensive experience in light metals research, primarily focused on characterisation of new materials, processes and manufacturing technologies. He is passionate about fostering strong links between teaching and research and believes discovery, problem-solving, critical thinking and creativity to be features shared by great research and inspiring learning environments. He was the recipient of Res-Teach awards in 2013 and 2014 from The University of Queensland to support his efforts to enhance teaching and learning through exposure of students to current research and modern learning practices. He has a wide range of research interests and is particularly focussed on the application of design, new materials solutions and evolving direct manufacturing technologies to the biomedical field. He is an expert in materials characterisation techniques and has extensive experience in electron microscopy, x-ray analysis, mechanical property evaluation and other high-level materials characterisation technique."
