Kieran Broome

Biography

Dr Kieran Broome joined the USC occupational therapy team in 2009 as a Lecturer. Kieran balances his part-time university appointment, with clinical practice and project management. He currently works two days per week in the public sector, working within a cardiac, respiratory and diabetes service. He also runs a private practice. Kieran is highly motivated to providing high quality university teaching, as evidence by student feedback. He has a passion for innovative, engaging, captivating and creative teaching and learning. His mission as a university educator is to enable graduates to feel confident and competent in core professional skills that are fundamental to all areas of practice. He maintains a strong research focus for the university, and embeds this in his teaching and practice. Leading the development of the current Occupational Therapy Honours pathway, he takes on the key role of Occupational Therapy Honours Coordinator. He mentors aspiring Honours and Masters research students to develop their research skills and tackle important clinical questions asked by the occupational therapy profession. He also continues his own research agenda in two key areas; ageing wellness and chronic disease (primarily diabetes) self-management. His accessible transport studies follow-on from his Doctoral studies where he both developed and evaluated age-friendly guidelines for public buses and their effect on the travel and social participation of older adults.
