Biography

"Dr Lisa Martin is a registered sport and exercise psychologist with AHPRA, and a full member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS) and the APS College of Sport and Exercise Psychologists (CoSEP). Originally from Newcastle, Lisa has completed a Masters of Sport and Exercise Psychology and is currently a Lecturer in Sport Psychology at USC. Lisa’s PhD research focused on exploring the self-identity characteristics of elite athletes and the impact of transitional events, such as retirement from sport, upon how athletes view themselves, and their psychological wellbeing. Apart from coordinating the second and third year Sport and Exercise Psychology courses within the Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science, Lisa also teaches the psychological elements of the Nutrition and Dietetics degree, coordinating a third year course (Counselling and Communication Skills for Dietetics) and teaching into a number of other courses across the School. Lisa is also a practicing sport and exercise psychologist who has experience providing both clinical and sport-related psychological assessment and counselling. She has extensive experience in her field, having provided performance-related information and strategies to both individuals and groups of all levels for the past 15 years. She has worked with both elite and recreation level athletes and coaches from sports such as swimming, golf, football, judo, athletics, sailing, rowing, and tennis, and was the Lead Psychologist for the Australian Paralympic Swim Team for three years. Having played competitive basketball herself for 15 years, both in Australia and the USA, Lisa is particularly passionate about her work."
