Biography
"Associate Professor Terry Lucke is a professional engineer with over 10 years’ academic experience in the university sector. Before moving into academia, Terry was involved in the civil engineering and construction industries and he has nearly 20 years’ experience working on all types of residential and commercial construction projects. Terry has strong links to Engineers Australia where he is a Chartered Engineering Executive member. Terry founded and leads the Stormwater Research Group (SWRG) which is a significant research concentration at the University of the Sunshine Coast in the area of stormwater management and water sensitive urban design. The vision of the SWRG is to engage and collaborate with industry partners to develop an internationally recognised centre of excellence for research in the area of stormwater management. The SWRG team includes Postdoctoral, PhD and Honours researchers, as well as administration and technical staff. Terry has been awarded approximately $5.0 million in competitive research funding since 2010, including USC Engineering’s first ARC Linkage project to investigate the potential of using street trees with permeable pavement surrounds and underlying storage reservoirs to enhance urban tree performance and improve stormwater quality. His research work has produced many quality research outputs and won numerous awards. Because of his extensive industry background, Terry knows how important it is for engineering graduates to have practical engineering skills, as well as a sound knowledge of engineering principles. As such, he incorporates many experiential learning and project-based learning activities into his teaching. Terry is extremely passionate about engineering education and undertakes research into improving the effectiveness of engineering education to improve student learning outcomes. In 2013, Terry was fortunate to have the quality of his teaching recognised at the national level by the award of an Australian Government, Office of Learning and Teaching (OLT) Teaching Citation."
