Biography
Dr Stephen Cox is Head of the Discipline of Oral Surgery at the University of Sydney . He completed his dental training, a Masters and a PhD at Sydney. He has worked in the UK and also in Nepal where he was involved in surgical training programs and the surgical management of trauma and plastic surgery patients especially those that relate to cleft lip and palate. He has a strong interest in the provision of services and appropriate training in remote and regional areas. He now regularly visits Cambodia where he is a member of an international cooperation to deliver post-graduate training
Research Interest
His interest in scar tissue started with the challenges associated with the treatment and management of Oral Submucous Fibrosis which he first came across during his time in Nepal. Presently he is engaged in projects that explore the mechanisms of scar tissue formation. Oral Surgery training both in Australia and overseas. He established an Evidence-based practice program as a foundational element in the training of final year students.
