Biography

Dr. Olivera Marjanovic is an Associate Professor at The University of Sydney Business School and theDirector of the Cooperatives Research Group (University of Sydney). She has over 25 years of experience in industry and academia. Through her applied research and innovative teaching Olivera seeks to link data and business analytics, business processes, services, human knowledge and technology in business, government and non profit organizations, aiming to assist these organisations in effectively managing IT-enabled innovations. Olivera has completed numerous industry-based research case studies and action design projects with companies worldwide and has published over 150 fully refereed conference and journal publications. Olivera has held visiting Professor positions at Inria/Loria Institute in France (3 times), University of Duisburg (Germany), Arizona State University (USA), Big Data and Analytics Research Center at the University of Tennessee (USA) and QUT. Olivera is a former co-editor in chief of the International Journal of Business Intelligence Research and the current Chair/Co-chair of numerous leading international conferences & minitracks in Business Intelligence/Business Analytics, including the longest-running minitrack on the Organizational Issues of Business Intelligence/Business Analytics and Big Data at the Hawaii International Systems Science Conference. Olivera is also the only Australian member of the advisory board of Teradata University Network - the largest international community of Business Intelligence/Business Analytics educators and industry leaders, currently with over 2000 members in more than 100 counties. Olivera has received numerous national and international grants, recognitions and awards for her innovative teaching and highly applied industry-based research. Her most recent grants include a large Australian government research grant (ARC Discovery) and a large Australian Learning & teaching Innovation grant (Australian OLT grant) for her innovative research and teaching in the emerging area of interactive data visualisation. Her research-led teaching of new breed business professionals is also recognised by industry leaders. In Dec 2012, MISQ (Chen et al. 2012) named Olivera as a top 20 researcher in the world in the area of Big Data, Business analytics and Business Intelligence (no. 7 in the subcategory of Business Information Systems). More recently, In Dec 2015, Olivera won the Bronze Award (Category: MBA and Social Sciences) at the highly prestigious International Wharton-QS Starts Re-imagine Education Awards –The Oscars of Higher Education Innovation (with over 500 entry) in Philadelphia USA. As an internationally recognised thought leader in Business Intelligence/Business Analytics and Big Data, Olivera is actively engaged in numerous activities designed to enhance collaboration between industry and academia, and is passionate about creating new types of value networks and innovative industry/university learning communities.
