Biography

Following undergraduate and early postgraduate general medical training at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, Richard Hillman underwent specialist training in HIV medicine and Sexual Health in London, England. He ran a large HIV unit in east London, and arrived in Sydney in 2001. Research Interest

He has broad research interests in Sexual Health, including clinical aspects of HIV, the diagnosis of sexually transmitted infections and vulnerable populations. His doctorate was in the molecular epidemiology of Human Papillomaviruses. This remains his principle research focus, particularly when infection is associated with the development of cancers in immunosuppressed individuals. HIs research output includes over 80 peer-reviewed articles and 100 presentations at local and international meetings. He currently has a number of ongoing projects, particularly focussed on the prevention and early diagnosis of anal cancer. Heserves on a number of University and professional committees, as well as being a Joint Editor of "Sexual Health" and is on the Editorial Board of the "Journal of Genital Tract Diseases", bothleading, peer-reviewed journals in the field. He has also conducted professional examinations and been on the organizing committeed of both local and international conferences.
