Biography
Dr Steven Sommer has held a number of senior management roles within the leading global technology organisations. He has worked at both Australian and multinational companies including Cisco, Microsoft, Oracle, and IBM. He has created and led high performance groups within a range of professional services areas including research and development, consulting, and customer support. In 2007, Dr Sommer left his role as Vice President of Research and Development at Clarity International to take up a series of corporate and academic contract engagements. These have included lecturing Masters and Undergraduate courses at the University of Sydney and Macquarie University within both their Business and Economics faculties and their Information Technology schools. Dr Sommer has taught Business Strategy, Management Decision Making, Business Information Systems, Project Management, Negotiation, Operating Systems, and Strategic Operations Management. Dr Sommer received his MBA in 2003 from the Australian Graduate School of Management (AGSM). He received his PhD at the Microsoft Research Institute in conjunction with Macquarie University; his PhD thesis was titled: Support for Competing Distributed Real-Time Applications within the Conventional Operating System Paradigm. In 1991 he was awarded a BSc(Hons) and University Medal from the University of Sydney.
