Biography
Dr Andrew Seen is a PhD Chemistry graduate of the University of Tasmania and has worked in industry (Nyrstar and Ecka Granules Australia) as well as an extensive career in academia at both the Launceston and Hobart campuses of the University of Tasmania. In addition to research interests in solving applied chemistry problems, both in industrial chemistry and in environmental-analytical chemistry, Andrew has had a strong commitment to supporting and nurturing undergraduate students. Since the beginning of 2014 Andrew has served as the Associate Dean Learning and Teaching for the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Technology.
Research Interest
Andrew's research interests include industrial, analytical and environmental chemistry projects. His main areas of interest are in the development and application of passive sampling devices for sampling contaminants in the environment, and understanding the sources, history and mobility of contaminants in the environment. Recent work includes establishing historical profiles of heavy metal pollution in the Derwent and Tamar estuaries through analysis of sediment cores, and development of passive samplers for metals and herbicides. Research activities involve collaboration with industry and government organisations, including Analytical Services Tasmania and NRM North / TEER program.
