Biography

Dr Cummings is currently a senior lecturer and Graduate Research Coordinator in the discipline of Nursing and Midwifery in the School of Health Sciences. She has over thirty years experience in healthcare in Australia through a range of occupations. She is a registered nurse and midwife and has worked in both clinical and administrative positions in nursing. She also has qualifications in health informatics and ICT. Dr Cummings' PhD research investigated the impact of ICTs on health outcomes in chronic illness. Dr Cummings has been employed as a research fellow on a diverse range of state, national and international research projects in health and ageing, patient-centred chronic disease self-management, and the use of qualitative methods for evaluation of health information systems.

Research Interest

Dr Cummings research aligns with the theme of Better Health. Research has focussed on eHealth systems to support chronic conditions and ageing. She is currently involved in research projects including: student's use of social media; the personally controlled electronic health record and primary healthcare; mobile applications and healthcare consumers; mobile learning and clinical supervision; and computer-based simulation to support inter professional learning for healthcare students. She regularly collaborates with researchers in multiple faculties at the University of Tasmania, other national universities and from Canada and Denmark. She also maintains links with researchers from the European Union. Elizabeth supervises higher degree research students in a wide range of research areas in multiple schools.
