Biography

I am a general practitioner with mental health specialty, and am currently working on a new project. I have been frustrated by the limitations of mainstream medicine and alternative therapies to assist women with the symptoms of premenstrual syndrome and the more severe premenstrual dysphoric disorder. How to train your hormones, is a blog based on my 20 years experience and thousands of conversations with women. Everything that has been written so far places the premenstrual phase as the problem. This blog is different because it identifies the mid cycle euphoric phase as the problem. In this phase, hormone effects on mood as ovulation approaches make a woman more affable, patient and more accommodating as an evolutionary adaptation to get her pregnant. By ovulation, having sex with an axe-wielding murderer can seem like a really good idea. If she gets pregnant this mood continues, but if she does not, her mood returns to normal and she becomes acutely aware of how she has subverted herself, placed her own needs behind everyone else and begins to feel resentful. She becomes prickly, impatient and angry about having been treated like a doormat by all those who took advantage of her bovine mood. In this paradigm, premenstrual syndrome is the solution, not the problem. This book provides a simple 3 step process that allows a woman to 1. Clarify the things she cares deeply about so she can understand why her emotions are triggered. 2. Use these concerns to restore her dignity and integrity. 3. Use the positive mood effects of the mid cycle phase to align her actions with her concerns.
