Research Interest
Jan's research area crosses over several of the University's research themes. As a practicing artist her research is aligned with Creativity, Culture and Society. Her research focus is on developing a visual language that allows a cross-cultural and cross-disciplinary dialogue about the land on terms of equality and acceptance of difference. Her research analyses how attitudes to the environment can be shifted to become aware of the vibrancy of matter and sensitive to non-human and multivalent understandings of Place. Since arriving in Tasmania her research has broadened to include Antarctica and how this significant site can be understood through a multi-disciplinary approach. She is currently involved in cross-disciplinary research between Science and the Arts into how the unknown can be visualised.
