Biography

Professor Walker has a 40 year career spanning clinical nursing, management, senior executive positions and most recently research. After gaining his doctorate in 1994, Prof Walker's publishing track record has included over 60 peer-reviewed journal/book chapter(s) and 70 conference publications. He has been successful in obtaining competitive research funding (approx. $500,000 over five years) and has supervised Honours, Masters and PhD candidates. Currently Dr Walker enjoys a conjointly funded position between the University of Tasmania and St Vincent's Private Hospital in Sydney where he leads a professional doctorate program with colleagues from both organisations as well as the hospital's research agenda.

Research Interest

Dr Walker's research interests have spanned a broad territory from early interests in postmodern methods such as discursive ethnography, auto(ethno)biography and discourse analysis with topics ranging from gender politics, epistemologies and cultural analyses of healthcare. Latterly this interests have been focused on the translational end of the quality improvement science and have shifted from more overtly philosophical concerns to deeply pragmatic and outcomes focused agendas such as improving clinician uptake of evidence in practice and compliance with guidelines for best practice.
