Igor Aharonovich
Professor
Materials and Technology for Energy Efficiency
University of Technology Sydney
Australia
Biography
Igor Aharonovich received his B.Sc (2005) and M.Sc (2007) in Materials Eng from the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology under the supervision of Prof Yeshayahu Lifshitz. He then moved to Australia and pursued his PhD studies at the University of Melbourne under the supervision of Prof Steven Prawer. During his PhD, Igor developed experimental techniques to engineer novel, ultra bright single photon emitters in diamond.
Research Interest
Research interests are focused on nanoscale engineering of nanophotonic entities to control and guide light at the nanoscale by sculpting nanostructures out of wide bandgap semiconductors. The nanoscale architecture is key component for novel devices such as low power lasers, molecular sensors, optical interconnects and high efficiency light emitters. A number of related projects are currently available, and include (but not limited to): Investigation of novel quantum systems in wide bandgap semiconductors Development of novel bio-sensors based on fluorescent nanodiamonds Investigation of light matter interaction in metallic nanostructures (Plasmonics) Simulation and design of new architectures for nanophotonics
