Biography
Cardiac electrophysiologist active in clinical practice and research. Clinical practice includes consultative electrophysiology, catheter ablation of atrial fibrillation and other cardiac arrhythmias, and implantation of cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs) including pacemakers and implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs). Primary area of research: interface between basic science-engineering principles and clinical application CIEDs, especially ICDs. Previous includes design and testing of algorithms used by ICDs to detect and differentiate arrhythmias, use of mathematical modeling to optimize electoral pulses delivered by ICDs, and development and validation of a safe and effective clinical method to determine the minimum shock strength that defibrillates the heart. Current research includes developing and validating novel methods that provide early warning of ICD lead failures and novel approaches to remote cardiac monitoring.
