Biography

I am a senior resident at the Department of Visceral, Transplant and Thoracic Surgery of the Innsbruck Medical University, Austria. I received my MD degree at the Leopold Franzens University in Innsbruck, Austria and visited as a pre-doctoral research fellow the Harrison Department of Surgical Research, Department of Surgery, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, USA. Following a post-doctoral fellowship at the Daniel Swarovski Research Laboratory of the Innsbruck Medical University, Austria, I started my surgical residency focusing my clinical and research interests on hepatobiliar surgery and solid organ transplantation. I am a reviewer of several journals and received national and international awards/grants. I wrote 15 peer-reviewed publications and more than 100 scientific contributions at international scientific conferences in the field of organ transplantation, immunology and surgery.

Research Interest

Pathogenetic mechanisms of ischemia reperfusion injury in different murine transplantation models and large animal models.Pteridines and their interference with the NOS pathway influence on endothelial dysfunction attenuating ischemia reperfusion injury. Immunosuppressive mechanisms of pharmacologically applied pteridin derivates tetrahydrobiopterin and 4-aminotetrahydrobiopterin Role of IRI in the development of chronic allograft vasculopathy Hepatobiliar surgery and kidney, pancreas and liver transplantation
