Biography

Linda See has a PhD in spatial applications of fuzzy logic from the School of Geography, University of Leeds, where she taught for more than a decade as a Senior Lecturer in Computational Geography and GIS. She has an MSc and BSc in physical geography and environmental management from McMaster University and the University of Toronto. In between her MSc and PhD, she spent one year working at the Max Planck Institute for Atmospheric Sciences near Gottingen, Germany, followed by four years at the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations in Rome, Italy, on agrometeorology and early warning for food security. As Deputy Head of the Earth Observation Systems Group (EOS) within the Ecosystems Services and Management program (ESM) at IIASA, she works with Dr. Steffen Fritz and the Geo-Wiki team on land cover validation issues and the development of hybrid land cover maps. She is an active member of the Geo-Wiki team and has worked on a number of crowdsourcing aspects including quality issues, community building, and a branch of Geo-Wiki concerned with the validation of urban land cover. She has coordinated the Austrian ASAP-10 LACO-Wiki project, which is an online tool for the validation of land cover and is currently WP lead for the ENSUF-ERANET Flood Citisense project. She also contributes to the demonstration cases in the H2020 LandSense Citizen Observatory. She is an active member in the WUDAPT (World Urban Database and Access Portal Tools) team, which aims to develop a global census of cities. She is an Editor of the journal Environment and Planning B.
