Biography
DR JAROSLAVA HALPER is a professor in the Department of Pathology College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Georgia Athens. She has received her MD from the University of Toronto in 1980 and PhD in Experimental Pathology from the University of Minnesota at Mayo Clinic in 1986. She was been trained in Pathology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx NY and at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN board certification in 1984. She characterized transforming growth factor e TGFe the first member of the granulin family to be identified. Her laboratory has shown that TGFß4 an isoform thought to be specific to avian speciesis actually TGFß1. Research Interest
Role of growth factors in carcinogenesis and tissue repair. More recently she has been working on biochemistry and pathology of tendons. Her studies on pathogenesis of so called degenerative suspensory ligament desmitis in horses represent a breakthrough in current knowledge of this devastating disease.
