Biography

Chunhua Zhang is an assistant professor at East Tennessee State University. He has extensive experience in teaching and research in the domain of GIScience. His general focus is in the application of geospatial techniques to investigate critical environmental problems and to develop new methods for remote sensing applications. His research agenda encompasses many areas of Physical Geography, and naturally links to other disciplines such as agriculture, forestry, urban planning, and general environmental sciences. He is currently collaborating with one Canadian Professors of Geography (J.M. Kovacs, Nipissing University) in the use of hyperspectral, ENVISAT Advanced Synthetic Aperture Radar (ASAR), Advanced Land Observing Satellite (ALOS) Phased Array type L-band Synthetic Aperture Radar (PALSAR), and Radarsat-2 imagery for monitoring forest degradation. He also involved in research projects with Institute of Subtropical Agriculture (Chinese Academy of Sciences) to study the influences of landscape pattern changes on a karst ecosystem in Guangxi, China.
