Biography

Dr. Hatem Abdelakher M.Sc, MD, FEBO After finishing his residency training in National Eye Institute (NEI) in Cairo in 2003, Dr. Hatem had got his Master degree from Cairo University and started his journey in the Vitreo-Retinal surgery, as a fellow till 2007, when he had got his fellowship of Egyptian Board of Ophthalmology (was the first in the board evaluation) and got his specialist degree. In 2008, he had gone for training at Moorfeild Eye Hospital in UK, and got training on the most recent Vitreo-Retinal procedures. In 2009, he had started to run the Vitreo-Retinal service at National Eye Institute as a consultant Vitreo-Retinal Surgeon and trainer as well. He did around 5000 retinal surgeries and more than 10,000 laser procedures for diabetic and myopic patients. Also, he did more than 10,000 cataract surgeries, hundreds of glaucoma procedures and around 1000 refractive surgeries. On this journey, he was not away from those people seeking for help in poor African countries. He has done thousands of cataract and glaucoma surgeries in Sudan, Niger, Chad, Mali, and Uganda, from 2004 till 2016. He is an expert in all retinal and laser procedures for diabetics, old ages and myopes.
