Biography
Consultant cardiologist and Bahrain’s first interventional cardiac electrophysiologist. He is the head of electrophysiology department; cardiac pacing and tachyarrhyhmia devices in Mohammed bin Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa Cardiac Centre at Bahrain Defence Force Hospital. He is board certified in internal medicine and adult cardiology from University of Toronto, Canada. Subsequently he did a sub-speciality clinical fellowship in cardiac electrophysiology at Toronto General Hospital. During his cardiology residency and clinical fellowship years he did a research focusing on the “Spatial organization of ventricular fibrillation in explanted Langendorff human heart” which he presented in the annual Ursula Bangs Clinical and Research day at University of Toronto. Subsequently he presented his research at the Canadian Cardiovascular Society Meeting in Montreal/Canada and then submitted an abstract at the American Heart Association. After returning from Canada he established the country's first electrophysiology (EP) laboratory in 2010, subsequently established an advanced EP program utilizing 3D mapping system and established a program for cryoablation of atrial fibrillation. He was the past president of the Gulf Heart Rhythm Society (GHRS). He is a fellow of the Gulf Heart Rhythm Society, Fellow of The Royal College of Physicians of Canada and a Fellow of the Westminster College in Vancouver. He is an Arab Board Examiner for adult cardiology. He received the following honors and decorations; Hawar Medal of a first grade, Military Assessment Medal 1st Class and Medal of Courage. His research interests include atrial fibrillation, new oral anticoagulants, cardiac devices and sudden cardiac death.
