Biography
John M Shafer is Research Professor and Director of the Earth Sciences and Resources Institute in the School of Earth Oceans and Environment at the University of South Carolina Columbia. He received his Ph.D. in civil engineering from Colorado State University Fort Collins CO in 1979. He received his MS in resource development from Michigan State University East Lansing MI in 1975 and B.S in earth science from Penn State University University Park PA in 1973 Prior to the University of South Carolina employment. He was Head of the Hydrology Division of the Illinois State Water Survey Champaign IL and Senior Research Engineer at Battelleae\\s Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. He is the recipient of several awards for his research including the 1991 John C Frye Memorial Award in Environmental Geology. He has developed copyrighted software for groundwater modeling and solid earth modeling applications and has published in numerous peer reviewed journals.
