Biography

Dr. Inge GrundkeIqbal is Professor and Head of Neuroimmunology at the New York State Institute for Basic Research in Developmental Disabilities Staten Island New York.  Dr. GrundkeIqbal is a world renowned neuroscientist and Alzheimer disease researcher who has authored/coauthored approximately 200 scientific publications in prestigious American and international journals and books.  She has made several seminal discoveries including the abnormal hyperphosphorylation of tau which has opened a whole new area of research in neurodegeneration especially Alzheimer disease and related conditions like Down Syndrome.  Her research contributions have won her several US Public Health Service, National Institutes of Health and nonfederal research grants and honors. Dr. GrundkeIqbal received the New York State Governors Award for Woman of Distinction in 1994, the Life Time Achievement Award for Alzheimers Disease Research in 2000 and the TLL Temple Foundation Discovery Award for Alzheimers disease Research in 2001.  She was awarded Honorary Professorship by Tongji Medical University Wuhan PR China in 2001.
