Prof. Dr. Md. Kabirul Islam

Biography

  Prof. Dr. Md. Kabirul Islam was graduated from Chittagong Medical College in 1985. Subsequently he joined to Dhaka Shishu (children) Hospital as Resident Medical Officer in 1986. He obtained M.S (Paed. Surgery) degree from Dhaka University in 1991.He is the first qualified Pediatric Surgeon in the country having M.S. in Pediatric Surgery. Prof. Kabir then returned to the same institution and worked there as Resident Surgeon, Jr. Consultant & Assistant Professor of Pediatric Surgery till 1995. In 1995, he joined Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College where he established and headed the ‘Department of Pediatric Surgery’ as Assistant and Associate professor. In 1999, he was promoted as the Professor of Pediatric Surgery and subsequently joined Dhaka Medical College & Hospital in 2003 as Professor and Head of Pediatrics Surgery and worked there till early 2007.In 1999, he obtained Fellowship from ‘International College of Surgeons’ (FICS), USA on Pediatric Surgery. He attained advanced training on Pediatric Urology from ‘The Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children’ in London, UK and on Pediatric Laparoscopic Surgery from Bangalore, India. Prof. Islam has more then 30 publications in international and national medical journals and is a contributor in books published from USA. At present, he is the Editor-in-Chief of ‘The Journal of Surgical Science’ the official publication of ‘The Society of Surgeons of Bangladesh’. He has participated in a number of national and international workshops, seminar, and symposium to enrich his decision making capacity, operative skills and care giving attitude. He has special interest in Neonatal and Hypospadias Surgery. Now he is working at Square Hospital as Consultant of Pediatric Surgery.
