Prof. Md. Waziul Alam Chowdhury

Biography

 Prof. Dr. Md. Waziul Alam Chowdhury MBBS, FCPS currently working as Director-cum-Professor of National Institute of Mental Health Dhaka. Prof. Chowdhury Passed MBBS from Rajshahi Medical College, University of Rajshahi, in 1981. After completion of internship he joined as a medical officer in rural health center and worked their till 1985. Then he took post-graduate course and under went training in psychiatry from BSMMU (Former IPGM&R) and successfully obtained his FCPS in psychiatry from Bangladesh college of Physicians and surgeons (BCPS) in 1990. He then joined as senior consultant in mental hospital, Pabna in the following year. In 1992 he left the institution and joined as a senior resident psychiatrist in Central Drug Addiction Treatment Center, Dhaka. He also served as an assistant professor, then associate professor, of psychiatry in Mymensingh Medical College Hospital from 1993 July to 2004. Then took the current charge of professor of psychiatry in National Institute of Mental Health, Dhaka. In July 2004. He joined as professor and head of the dept. of psychiatry in Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital, Bogra in 2006 and worked their for 2 years. He wrote more than 25 scientific articles in internationally and nationally reputed medical journals and participated in many scientific conference at home and abroad. He gained advance training in geriatric medicine and psychiatry from CAN hospital and research center, Delhi, India. He achieved WHO fellowship from National Institute of Mental Health and Neuroscience (NIMHANS) Bangalore, India and Membership of American College of Physicians. Prof. Chowdhury is the Former President of Bangladesh Association of Child and Adolescent Mental Health (BACAMH). Currently he has been working as a General Secretary of Bangladesh Association of Psychiatrists (BAP), President of Bangladesh Association for Geriatric Psychiatry (BAGP), Member Secretary of Faculty of Psychiatry of Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPS) and Secretary General of SAARC Psychiatric Federation (SPF).
