Biography
Dr O’Connell received his Degree in Industrial Biochemistry from the University of Limerick (UL) and subsequently completed his PhD in Enzymology and Protein Biochemistry, also at UL. Dr. O’Connell completed a Diploma in Biomedical Science from the University of Ulster, Coleraine and currently holds the position of Strand Leader with Shannon ABC. He is responsible for the day to day running of the facilities in Tralee, provides scientific leadership and is central to the development of industrially relevant projects as well as technology transfer. Dr O’Connell specialises in enzyme biotechnology, recombinant protein production, screening organic waste for value added bioactives, and developing phenotype microarray technology for bioprocessing.
