Biography
Mr. Paul N. Clark served as the Chairman of the Board at BIOLASE, Inc. since June 16, 2014 until September 1, 2017. Mr. Clark has been a Member of Strategic Advisory Board at Genstar Capital, LLC since August 2007 and served as an Operating Partner of Genstar Capital, LLC from July 2007 to January 2013. He was responsible for advising and expanding Genstar Capital’s practice in the life sciences sector. He has been the Non-Executive Chairman at Keysight Technologies, Inc. since October 31, 2014 and has been its Independent Director since October 2014. He serves as Chairman of Cerevast Therapeutics, Inc. He has been a Non-Executive Director at Agilent Technologies, Inc. since May 2006. He has been a Member of Strategic Advisory Board of Genstar Capital, LLC since August 2007. He serves as a Director of Talecris Biotherapeutics, Inc. and Cerevast Therapeutics, Inc. He served as a Director of Catalent Pharma Solutions, Inc. since August 2007. He served as a Director of Abbott Laboratories. He is on the Board of Overseers of the Amos Tuck School, Dartmouth College. He serves on the Boards of Swedish Hospital, Washington Chief Executive Officer Roundtable, the University of Washington Business School, Evans Scholars Foundation & Western Golf Association. He has extensive experience leading companies in drug discovery, development and commercialization. He served as the President and Chief Executive Officer at ICOS Corp. from June 1999 to January 2007 and also served as the Chairman of the Board from February 2000 to January 2007, where he led it through considerable growth and value creation with the commercialization of Cialis. Mr. Clark led the transition to a commercial organization achieving profitability while developing Cialis into a $1 billion product which became the market leader surpassing Viagra in many countries. From 1984 to December 1998, he worked in various capacities for Abbott Laboratories, retiring from Abbott Laboratories as an Executive Vice President after serving previously as a Vice President from 1984 to 1990 and a Senior Vice President from 1990 to 1998. In addition to other responsibilities during this time Mr. Clark ran the pharmaceutical business for 14 years. Prior to joining Abbott, he served as Vice President in sales and marketing positions with Marion Laboratoies from 1983 to 1984 and in various sales, marketing and operations positions at Novartis Corporation (formerly Sandoz Inc., Sandoz Pharmaceuticals) from 1973 to 1983. He has over 30 years experience in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and life sciences industries. He served as a Director of Harlan Laboratories, Inc. (also known as Harlan Sprague Dawley and Harlan Labs). He served as a Director of ICOS Corp. from June 1999 to January 2007, Amylin Pharmaceuticals, Inc. from June 2009 to May 14, 2012 and Talecris Biotherapeutics Holdings Corp. from September 2007 to June 1, 2011. He served as an Independent Director at BIOLASE, Inc. from February 2014 to September 11, 2017. Mr. Clark received an M.B.A. from Dartmouth College, Amos Tuck School and a B.S. in Finance from the University of Alabama.
