Research Interest
The current research project is the development of human nasal epithelial cells (HNE) as a model for studying epithelial cell behaviour in genetic disease. We have developed a method for the culture and differentiation of HNE cells from human donors, demonstrating ciliagenesis and generation of vectored epithelial ion transport. We also perform analysis of gene expression at the different stages of cell culture, monitoring changes in expression of markers for stem cell, epithelial cells and epithelial-mesenchymal transition.
