Meakin Paul
Molecular medicine
Dundee University
Belgium
Biography
Dr Paul Meakin completed his degree at the University of Nottingham, in Biochemistry and Biological Chemistry (MSci) in 2004. In 2005 he moved to the University of Dundee to undertake his PhD with Prof Mike Ashford, on the role of the ï¢-secretase enzyme, in whole animal energy homeostasis. From 2009 Dr Meakin has worked in Professor Ashford’s lab working on hormonal balance of energy homeostasis and diabetes. Since then, his interests lie in the similarities between metabolic disease states such as diabetes and Alzheimer’s disease. Currently the aim of his work is to understand the metabolic dysregulation that occurs in a variety of diseases, including NASH, diabetes, cardiovascular disease and Alzheimer’s disease in-vivo.
