Biography
Stuart received a Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Strathclyde in 2008. Since then he has worked in the Surgical Technology Group in IMSaT, principally on the development of devices for minimally invasive surgery. He is an associate member of the IMechE.
Research Interest
While at IMSaT, Stuart has worked on a number of research projects. These include: The development of novel mechanical transmissions for minimally invasive surgical instruments, funded by the Scottish Enterprise Commercialisation Award. The development of a novel radio-frequency ablation and cutting probe, funded by a NIHR Invention for Innovation grant. Various projects relating to the development of laparoscopic, thoracoscopic and open surgical instruments and devices funded by Karl Storz Endoscopy. This work has resulted in over seven patents. The CODIR (COlonic Disease Investigation by Robot hydrocolonoscopy) project, where his work is particularly focused on the propulsion of a robotic colonoscope. Stuart is now also working towards a PhD related to this project.
