Tom Fardon

Biography

Dr Tom Fardon is a consultant Physician in Respiratory and General Internal Medicine at NHS Tayside, and Honorary Reader with the University of Dundee. He is the Systems in Practice Phase Convenor, responsible for the first three years of the medical undergraduate curriculum. He graduated from Cambridge University in 1999, and was awarded his MD from Cambridge in 2008, winning the Ralph Nobel Prize for his thesis "Optimising Anti-inflammatory Therapy in Atopic Asthma". He is the BMJ Respiratory Portal Champion, Associate Editor for online content of the journal Thorax, and Respiratory Speciality Champion for the BMJ online presence. Dr Fardon's clinical interests include difficult to control asthma, cystic fibrosis, non-CF bronchiectasis and chronic bronchial infection. He is a founding member of the TAYBRIDGE bronchiectasis research group, and has an active research interest in the area of non-CF bronchiectasis. He has collaborated internationally with the CAPO group in pneumonia research, the EXODUS group for COPD and the continue collaborative research within the University. He has also co-written a text book on CXR interpretation, "200 Chest X-Rays". Dr Fardon's medical education interests are formative assessment, e-learning, and utilising digital media to enhance learning.
