Biography
Manuel António Pais Clemente is a doctor and professor with a PhD in Otorhinolaryngology (ENT) from the Faculty of Medicine of Porto.Director of the Otorhinolaryngology Department of the Porto Medical School, Clemente Country has a long national and international curriculum in teaching, research, diagnosis and treatment of Voice, Sinusitis, Cervical-Facial Cancer and Smoking Prevention .Clemente's country has close to 800 scientific communications, more than 250 papers published in scientific journals, national and international, being member of about 20 national and international associations in the area of ​​Otorhinolaryngology. Clemente is the only Portuguese member of the International Committee of Otorhinolaryngology, of the American Academy of Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery, an entity that distinguishes academic and hospital performance in this specialty of medicine worldwide. In 2006, he was re-elected President of the World Voice Consortium, a position he will hold until 2010. He holds a number of international honors and appointments, such as the Honor Award from the American Academy of Otorhinolaryngology and the General Secretariat of Latin American ENT Societies . In Portugal, where he is also President of the Portuguese Voice Institute, Manuel Pais Clemente has pioneered the introduction of new treatment techniques in Otorhinolaryngology. Laser CO2 Surgery, micro-endoscopic surgery for sinusitis treatment and the latest technique for the treatment of snoring and sleep apnea are just three examples. In 2005, the Otorhinolaryngology Service of the Hospital of S.João, Porto, directed by Pais Clemente, was considered by the National School of Public Health, the best in the country, in the treatment of otorhinolaryngological diseases, occupying the first position in the " Ranking "of Global Performance, established by this institution. Ten years earlier, in 1995, the Portuguese physician was distinguished with the Grand Cross of the Order of the Infante D. Henrique.
