Biography
Heather Smith joined the Student-Athlete Center for Academic Excellence staff as an Athletic Academic Counselor in July of 2016. She is responsible for providing academic support and monitoring academic progress for the football and beach volleyball teams. Smith also serves as the co-coordinator for the student-athlete book loan program and coordinates the faculty guest coach program. Prior to joining the SACAE, Smith worked as the Academic Specialist at Eastern Michigan University. In that role, she worked with at-risk student athletes from all 21 teams, but primarily worked with the football and men’s and women’s basketball teams. She also served as the co-advisor for the Student Athlete Advisory Committee during her time at Eastern Michigan. During her final two years at EMU, the football program had the highest GPA among football teams in the Mid-American Conference. From 2011-2013, Smith was a Graduate Assistant in the school’s office of Student Athlete Support Services
