Verheyen Steven

Biography

I’m a postdoctoral researcher at Institut Nicod (Paris, France) and a research fellow at the University of Leuven (Belgium). I’m primarily interested in better understanding natural language meaning through the use of psychometric methods. My main projects involve the application of (i) item response theory to vagueness, (ii) unfolding to typicality and conceptual combination, and (iii) multidimensional scaling to semantic similarity. I obtained a PhD in psychology from the University of Leuven in 2011 under the supervison of Gert Storms. In my dissertation I introduced a probabilistic account of vagueness based on item response theory. In 2011 I received a postdoctoral fellowship of the Research Foundation-Flanders to further develop this account. From October 2015 I will join Insititut Nicod to work on the ANR project Trivalent Logics and natural language meaning in collaboration with Paul Egré and Benjamin Spector.
