Filomena

Biography

Filomena has worked at The Ottawa Hospital since 1985. She has focused her career primarily with people living with chronic disease. In the early years, she worked in Nephrology and provided care to those with end-stage renal disease. For the last 20 years Filomena has concentrated her work in the field of diabetes. She held the role of Diabetes nurse specialist for many years and currently is the Advanced Practice nurse for both the in-pt and out-pt diabetes program. In this role, Filomena leads an in-patient consult team of diabetes nurse specialists who have made significant strides to improve the quality and safety of diabetes care for admitted patients. Filomena also provides clinical expertise and leadership to the out-patient diabetes nurse educators. In the role of APN, she also provides direct clinical care to people with CF related diabetes and supports their self-management of this complex disease. Filomena promotes and supports best practices in diabetes management across the organization through education and mentorship of nurses. She co-chairs the Champlain LHIN Regional Hospitals Diabetes Committee and provides consultation to the regional diabetes advisory committee.
