Axel Smits

Biography

 Axel is the Chairman and Senior Partner PwC Belgium and heads up the Tax Practice within PwC EMEA. Together with his team of international tax experts, he assists the firm’s clients on a global basis in developing substance based tax strategies, which need to be ever more aligned with the company’s business reality in order to avoid as being perceived as artificial. Axel has over 25 years of experience in advising national and multinational company groups on a wide variety of international tax topics, in a world where matching the features of multiple domestic tax systems with those of international tax rules has become increasingly complex. Throughout his career, Axel has assisted a significant number of companies in developing, implementing and maintaining their global tax strategies. This is especially true in the areas of holding and financing, intellectual property planning and ensuring appropriate substance is put in place.
