William J. Sibold

Biography

  Mr. William J. Sibold, also known as Bill, serves as Head of Multiple Sclerosis and Senior Vice President at Sanofi-Aventis U.S. LLC. Mr. Sibold has been an Executive Vice President at Genzyme Corporation at Sanofi since July 1, 2017. Mr. Sibold has been Senior Vice President and Head of Sanofi Genzyme’s Multiple Sclerosis, Oncology and Immunology organization at Genzyme Therapeutic Products Limited Partnership since January 2016. He is responsible for leading its Multiple Sclerosis Franchise, including the global commercialization of its two products. He served as Head of Multiple Sclerosis Business at Genzyme Corporation since November 10, 2011 until July 1, 2017 and served as its Senior Vice President until July 1, 2017. He has more than 25 years of biopharmaceutical industry experience. Prior to joining Genzyme in 2011, he held various leadership positions, served as Chief Commercial Officer and Senior Vice President of Avanir Pharmaceuticals, Inc. from April 2011 to October 31, 2011. At Sanofi Genzyme, he led preparation for the global launches of dupilumab and Sarilumab. He served as the Chief Executive Officer and President of Lycera Corporation since January 2010. He served as the Managing Director of Biogen Idec's Asia Pacific region, where he was responsible for Australia, New Zealand and six Asian countries. He joined Sanofi in late 2011 as head of the MS franchise, where he oversaw the successful launches of Aubagio® and Lemtrada®. Mr. Sibold served as Senior Vice President, U.S. Neurology and Senior Vice President U.S. Commercial at Biogen Idec Inc. Mr. Sibold has a proven track record of biopharmaceutical leadership, as well as business development and commercial expertise in several therapeutic areas, including inflammation. He started his career with Eli Lilly Canada in Sales. Mr. Sibold's experience also includes sales and marketing positions at Eli Lilly and Amgen Inc. At Amgen, he served as a Product Manager in Epogen Marketing responsible for developing product strategy, tactical plans and analytical decision-making. Mr. Sibold has more than 20 years of pharmaceutical and biotechnology experience with a focus on strategic planning, commercial operations, business development and general management. He held a number of leadership positions within Biogen, including driving their U.S. commercial operations in neurology, oncology and rheumatology and general management of Biogen’s Australian and Asia-Pacific business. He joined Biogen Idec Inc. as the Director of New Products Commercialization in 2001 where he was responsible for creating the commercial strategy and aligning stakeholder's opinions of the early stage pipeline. Next, he moved to Sydney to run Biogen Idec's Australia Asia Pacific business which included Australia, New Zealand and several Asian countries. During his eight-year tenure at Biogen Idec, Mr. Sibold held multiple senior leadership roles at Biogen which included growing the U.S. commercial business (Rituxan, Avonex, Tysabri). He served as Vice President of Commercial Operations for the Neurology Strategic Business Unit where he oversaw Sales, Marketing and Patient Services. From 1997 to 2001, Mr. Sibold served in senior management positions at Innovative Clinical Solutions where he was instrumental in driving sales and business development initiatives. He served as a Director of Lycera Corporation. He relaunched Tysabri under a complicated Risk Minimization Plan mandated by the FDA and achieved significant sales growth milestones. He also was a member of the varsity tennis team and captain in his senior year. Mr. Sibold earned his MBA from Harvard Business School, Harvard University and received a Bachelor of Arts in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry from Yale University.
