Biography
Following his degrees and PHD in Biology, he started his professional career in 1985 as head of the laboratories of the Society for Research on Heavy Ions in Darmstadt, Germany. He continued his career as head of laboratory at the Düsseldorf-based Henkel and as scientific assistant at the Technical University of Darmstadt. In 1990 he moved to BASF, Ludwigshafen. In the following years he took over senior roles in the environmental field. From January 2001 to March 2004, he was seconded for three years to Cefic as Executive Director at the helm of the Environmental Policy department. Upon his return to his company, he became Senior Vice President till September 2006, in charge of public affairs concerning environmental matters. From September 2006 to April 2008, he was responsible for the company’s global security and defense policies. On 1 May 2008 he moved to the VCI, where he became Director General as of 1 June 2008. Dr. Utz Tillmann was born in Berlin on 10 October 1953.
