Biography

Dr. Sara Salomone is an applied economist working at UNU-CRIS as project researcher on the AMIREG (African Migration: Root Causes and Regulatory Dynamics) Project from 1 June 2017. AMIREG aims first at providing a deeper understanding of the root causes of internal and international migration from Eastern and Western Africa from 2007 until 2016 with a specific focus on the role of financial incentives and constraints; and secondly at identifying the effectiveness of and scope for regional agreements to ease mobility responses to such geo-localized shocks. Sara holds a M.A. in Development Economics and International Cooperation obtained from the University of Rome ‘Tor Vergata’ and a PhD in Economics, jointly got in 2011 from UCLouvain and the University of Rome ‘Tor Vergata’. She has written her thesis, entitled Four Empirical Essays on International Migration under the supervision of Prof. Frederic Docquier and Prof. Leonardo Becchetti. After the completion of her PhD, Sara has been awarded a post-doc scholarship by the FNRS (Fund for Scientific Research), which has allowed her to carry out her research at IRES, UCLouvain. Her research interests include international migration, financial remittances and gender issues. Her works have been published in peer reviewed journals, such as World Development, Regional Science and Urban Economics, Scandinavian Journal of Economics, and the World Economy.
